Holly Burgess, DVM Dr. Holly Burgess and her husband, Tim, grew up in Tucson. Holly is a Canyon Del Rio High School graduate and Tim is a Santa Rita High School graduate. Both attended the University of Arizona and graduated with BS degrees in Animal Health Science and Electrical Engineering respectively. Dr. Burgess obtained her veterinary degree from North Carolina State University in 1993. She completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the University of Tennessee in 1994, and then returned to Raleigh, North Carolina, to work for one year in a small animal practice before returning to Tucson. Dr. Burgess joined Sunrise Pet Clinic in March 1996. In 2000, Dr. Burgess's 10-year-old German Shepherd Megan began experiencing pain and weakness in her lower back and rear limbs that was not responding to conventional therapy. Her search for alternative and complimentary therapies that could help Megan, led Dr. Burgess to pursue acupuncture training and certification with the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society, Chinese herbal remedies, NAET (alternative allergy clearing technique), Veterinary Orthopedic Manipulation (VOM), and most recently, Nutritional Response Testing. Dr. Burgess also has an interest in nutrition and recommends home prepared and/or raw diets for many of her patients. Megan lost her battle in May of 2004, at the age of 13, but left Dr. Burgess with multiple alternative healing techniques and a quest to offer them to her patients. Dr. Burgess currently has two dogs; a German shepherd named Quixote born October of 2002 and Noah, a Shih Tzu born January of 1999 (see photo). They are continual guinea pigs for all of Dr. Burgess's newfound knowledge. Outside of the workplace, Dr. Burgess loves being a mom to daughter Aubry, born March of 2004. She also enjoys preparing meals for friends and family however her stenciling, decorating and tandem bike riding careers are temporarily on hold until Aubry is ready to join in. | |
